Apparently so. The site cited previously describes the locations as:
"As áreas com Terra Preta Arqueológica são encontradas sobre os mais diversos
tipos de solos e normalmente se localizam em terra firme, próximas às margens
de rios, em locais bem drenados. "
(The areas with Archeological Dark Earth are found over the most diverse
types of soils and normally are located in hard earth, next to river banks,
in
well drained locations.)
