I live in tobacco country. A lot of the farms are gone now, back to
timber. People have farmed here for centuries. The soil was initially
fertile. Over cropping and erosion have taken their toll.
I grew up in Central Florida and like the soil here better than there,
though. The sandy soil of Florida just eats up compost, etc. At least
here it stays put a little better.
Increasing fertility on this small 10 acres is very challenging.
