One of the gardeners in our Healthy Harvest group stacks tires and plants his potatoes, and throws on another tire and adds soil as they grow. I thought this was clever.--Sage

This was a productive weekend. I spent a few days cutting the sidewalls
off a bunch of tires. I think I have 23 tires in all. First, I used a
hole saw to drill a hole near the tread, then I used a sawzall to cut
off the sidewall. All I have left to do is to cut the tread and screw
them together. This is a project that has been on my to do list for
quite a while, maybe three years. I want to use the tread as an edging
in the garden area. It should help with erosion as well-a silt fence of
sorts.
Today, I burned the other brush pile. It is still going, but I've been
checking it and there is only about one log left to burn on the coals.
We took the opportunity to roast some marshmallows again..that was fun.
Ron has had so much energy from two good nights of sleep that he has
been cleaning up his shop and making assorted things with the scrap
wood. He's made 3 or 4 birdhouses and will be making some cutting
boards, whirlygigs, and other stuff. He's trying to clear up the
clutter to make room for a toybox for little JRose.

We also got more wood this weekend. I'm going to get Ron to carve out a
mortar with the chainsaw and then finish working it with a small fire in
the depression. I still have a chainsaw fear and I'm just not that
good/precise with it. I'll use this to dehull the rice, and maybe later
grind some acorns.

I just came back from checking the fire again...I saw a very nice
meteor, probably a Taurid, streak from east to west. It is a beautiful
night.

The chicks have doubled in size. Tomorrow, hopefully, I will be able to
get an incubator and start incubating some eggs.

The next couple of jobs are as follows:

Dig up a 15 foot line of monkeygrass, divide it, and transplant it to a
new area.

Finish removing metal from primary burn pile and create a recreational
area there. I'm about 75% done with that project.

Fence repair that I still have not finished, less than 20% done so far.

Pickup more black walnuts. I cracked one of the ones I collected a week
or so ago and it was really good! I'm not going to waste the others.

Find additional water collection equipment and hopefully metal siding
for rice paddy. If I can't find a pool, I might use a couple of rolls
of metal flashing that my folks found on the side of the road (!!!)
..not sure exactly what I will be doing yet.

Order Paulownias and trees for front pasture. Install a temporary
separation fence to protect area from mowing and acquire flags to mark
tree locations so that friend with auger can dig holes(a barter
agreement-they borrow the woodsplitter, I get my treeholes dug)

Finish garden planning.
