- Subject: [Homestead] Moose hunting
- Date: Fri, 26 Sep 2008 21:42:36 -0700 (PDT)
It seems that on every program I see, news, entertainment, or whatever,
they are making jokes about Palin and moose hunting. Much of America
does not understand sustenance hunting and fishing. They have no clue
about the use of guns as tools to put food on the table. It is one thing to
disrespect Palin, but I am starting to feel that moose are being maligned
as well. The moose is my 'spirit animal'. I came within a few yards (maybe
15 feet at most) of a wild moose once, and I was awestruck. I just saw a
clip of Matt Damon
talking about Palin. I am no longer a fan of Matt Damon. I thought he
was smarter than he showed me. He is of Finnish ancestry, too, so he should
be ashamed of himself.
I think if Teddy Roosevelt were alive today, the news would make him a
laughing stock. It would be the same for Abe, I think. Grrr.
Who had sheep on the White House lawn? Was it Cleveland? Don't people
realize that not everyone on the planet wants to live with a chain
attached to the supermarket. Some people actually want to live closer
to the land, use less energy, and not be such a drain on the Earth. But
those folks are mocked today.
My family did not hunt, but we ate a lot of fish growing up. We grew a
garden every year, and traded various things with others who gardened.
I would say that had we not supplemented our protein intake with the
fish we caught, that we would have suffered more malnourishment than we
did. I'm not going to say that I was starved as a kid, but there were
definitely times when I went to bed hungry. From the interviews I saw
with the Palin family, despite their current financial status, I believe
that they were relatively poor in the years after they first moved to
Alaska. Hunting and fishing was a way of life for them, and by all
accounts, Dad did a good job of teaching his children respect for
weapons as well as for nature. Oh well.
It is time for bed...canoe trip tomorrow, big dinner(it is DH's birthday),
and a star party after dark.
See y'all Sunday.

Sorry, just trying to help.
By killing the deer, you are actually helping the species-they are so
overpopulated.
Just remember that you are harvesting meat from an animal that is already
dead. You are not doing harm simply by cutting it up..
Be sure and also have plenty of freezer paper or ziplock bags-whatever you
intend to use. Once you see all the meat you have done yourself, you may
feel differently about it.

Weeelllllll, a lot of the aid that went to Afghanistan *did* go to the
people. It was supposed to be used instead of growing opium poppies. Well,
they took the money and then as soon as opium season came along, they all
went right back to growing the poppies! So, I'd place the people (at least
the "farmers") right up there with their government!
And I think the whole thing was a waste of air space!

Who won?
I think maybe Obama jumped ahead in coming out of the gate, but maybe McCain
caught up and they tied at the line?
I heard Obama say, Your right, John, an awful lot, and I also heard him say
"that's just not true" On one issue, when they were talking about Pakistan,
I know McCain was telling the truth as Obama has said more than one he would
invade Pakistan. There was at least one other issue that McCain had truth on
his side but O-man said "not true"
I think McCain had a few disrespectful low blows, like near the end when he
insinuated that Obama was like Bush..lol...and I got tired of hearing him
say "he doesn't get it". Maybe that is true, but the impression I got was
from a sour grapes kid, not very presidential.
I thought the whole Pakistan pod was telling of the debate as a whole.
Obama's analysis of the past was right on..we did support Musharraf at the
expense of the Pakistani people..we wasted a lot of money on a regime with
very little-actually nothing, in return. But McCain is also right that we
don't need to invade Pakistan, we need to win over the tribes that have
control of the border regions. Throughout the debate, I felt that both guys
were saying the right thing, but I could never feel truly comfortable with
either one. As fas a Pakistan/Afghanistan goes, I think we have to do
both...we have to chase across the border, and we have to win hearts and
minds in those tribes. We have to stop aid to the government of Pakistan and
somehow get it in the hands of the people who are friendly to us and might
be able to help us. I found myself, in different arguements, not wanting to
choose between A and B, but wanting All of the Above or None of
the Above. I'll bet there will actually be more undecided voters than we
saw before the debates.
When I turned on the TV, I expected Obama to win hands down. I certainly
think it was close, and in the end, it may go either way. I can see how
O-supporters will be convinced of his win, and I can see how M-supporters
will be convinced of his win. If I were undecided, I don't think I saw
anything that would lock in my vote.
Akka
