Our house in Virginia is on the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah. I
couldn't canoe with the kids there but upstream on the Shenandoah was
absolutely beautiful, and I know exactly what you mean about slipping back in
time. I used to imagine the same thing, what it might have been like when it
was pristine and beautiful before we messed it up. There were just enough
little rapids I felt ok with the kids in the canoe and they got a little
thrill, but mostly I could just ship the oars and let the river carry us
along. So wonderful. We had a halfway place with a sandbar where we'd picnic
and wade.

Have a great time!

PS I made an apple pumpkin bread for a community picnic the other day that
was so yummy I can't STAND it. : ) I've made it twice since and given them
away and gotten raves. Want that or are you done with apples yet? ; )
