Yeah, down in the river bed, you can't see all the development.  Your only
reminder is the occasional bridge or trestle.  It is quiet down there and
animal life is oblivious to the sound of the solitary paddler.  Where I will
be Saturday, there is almost no development.  A bit of industry in town, like
the water treatment plant, then it is farmland and woods all the way the to
the takeout.

I don't particularly care for pumpkins, but post it. There are always people
interested in recipes.

Good morning -

I, perhaps to my own detriment, do watch TV (it is my 'company' - no other
human here to bounce my thoughts off of) - the birds talk a lot - ad nauseum,
sometimes, but the cats don't say much unless I step on them in the dark

Be all that as it may, this morning's news is, of course, full of the demise
of WaMu, but also full of assurances that nothing has changed but the name.
I've had personal word from several friends whose ATM cards still work fine,
their balances are reconciled, etc.

My significant other's direct deposits go to WaMu - mine go to Wells Fargo.
He expressed some concern yesterday, and I told him to think about it like...a
good longtime friend was getting married. Same friend. New name. I do have a
WaMu account, but there's always only a pittance in it - we just use it to
transfer money back and forth between each other when one of us hits a
financial speedbump.

All that's the upside. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. If our own
government, and tried and true institutions like WaMu can't keep track of
themselves, it only points up to me the importance of the concept of
self-sustaining lifestyle and the homesteading mentality.
