We are developing plans for a few chickens. But to eat the eggs, not

Grain price alert: now that my three purchased hens have laid three
dozen eggs, the cost per dozen is down to slightly less than $13.00.

My mother was one to try new things. So she went to "the hippy food store" in nearby Greenfield Mass. (She was well into her 70's at the time.) Bought all the stuff to make granola. She liked the granola, but being very good with numbers, she figured out what it cost. The answer was about 87 cents per pound. She could buy commercially offered granola for 89 cents a pound.

About out proposed hens. I am not sure how much grain we'd get for them. Can they find things to eat in the field?
