I'm planting potatoes today and wondered about sweet potatoes.
I know they are planted from slips, but is it possible to grow them from cut
up chunks with a sprouting 'eye' like regular potatoes? Or is it that they
need a longer growing season and slips give a head start?
Growing slips multiplies your plantables. I've always had plenty extra so I just put the smallest ones directly into the soil. The key with sweet potatoes is in the keeping. We use an upstairs storage room above the bedroom, newspapers on the floor, potatoes spread out. Dry and warm, as opposed to very cool and humid for white potatoes and carrots.
