I agree about the barbed wire. Fuggitaboutit with goats.
I kept my goats in with two strands of wire, one at the top of a
48-inch fence and another about 2 feet down with a woven wire fence
behind the electric lines for backup. I had a nice electric charger
which has since been removed by person or persons unknown. It took the
goats several years to notice that the charger was missing. It's much
easier to keep them in if they firmly believe the fence will bite
them.
Replacing the wired-in charge would be a bigger job than I'd like to
do. Does anyone have words of wisdom on solar fence chargers? I see
them in use around here with cattle, and the cattle tend to stay home,
so they must work okay.
Another thing: I sold a few dozen goats to an Amish guy, and he kept
them in with an electric tape. They gave him no trouble, though he
said the boer buck he was using would leave if he wanted to. But the
ladies would not. I think it worked because he had them inside the hot
tape from the time they were small.
