This was totally funny. This "homestead digest" arrived and it consisted almost entirely of loser lyndie fighting with yet someone else. Of course, I couldn't figure out what the fighting was about! Don't worrry Pax, she's a nutcase. She told me that I'm a "Rove operative", you know, one of Karl Rove's agents who are out to get her.

Hated brussels sprouts as a kid (as well as the parental flatulence
they seemed to induce..... the old 'pull my finger' joke was
inevitable if brussels sprouts were on the table), kinda got around
to thinking they were so-so by adulthood.... Until trying my wife's
recipe of shredded brussels sprouts with hazelnuts! I think there is
some shallot and a big blob of butter too. Its become a Thanksgiving
favorite. Now I surely do look forward to brussels sprouts season.

She just preferred the porch and it wasn't until I actually
put a net
up around it that I managed to get her out of the habit. And then we
ate her cause I hated her anyway. And she was good.

I love it. That's the way it is supposed to work.

This might be of interest.

I spoke with my son about growing hops for home brewing. He said the problem is controlling bitterness. The same plant in different years will have differing levels of bitterness which makes controlling a batch of beer difficult. He also mentioned several home brew shops in the LA area have a hop plant or two growing if they have a spot of ground.

I'll check out that link.

I'm not surprised about the bitterness; as a natural dyer I learned long
ago that each year brings new surprises in each planting. Mostly, with
the dye plants, if I kept the ground quite stable, the changes each year
seemed to be related to water, both in how much we got in a given years
and in some cases, whether we got lots at a time and when. After I
realized all that I began to see the differences in the garden and the
harvest there....so guess hops is like most other plants, responding to
the available conditions. Cool.

Thanks much, Don.

Eeeeuuuuuu, warning please <g> I glanced at the Subject line and then your
answer: Brussel Sprouts . . . mighty fine with cherry pie.

I'm sorry you interpreted it that way. It's not how I intended it.
Why don't you make sure next time before you come out swinging and
calling names, ok?

O.K., this is now getting silly. Go back and read the whole thread AND what
you wrote. Then show me where I called you any names. And I thought you
said you were done with this thread.

Ok, Lynda. I offered the olive branch, you choose to snap it in two.
That's fine.

Insinuating I am elitist, calling my hard won skills "clairvoyance" as
if they aren't real...can't you see that those are pretty mean
spirited things?

You didn't deny being mean, you're just looking for a reason to hang
it on me, and I'm not buying it.

And now I really am done because this has no place on the list anymore.
