I thought I would send an update on what is going on. I have been parked in SoCal since September with a January trip to Arizona. I missed our favorite Phoenix curmudgeon while there, he was out enjoying the scantly clad beach goers while I was watching people in bundles of coats trying to stay warm.

Right now I am in the Bay area but will be returning to Southern California in a few days. About the only thing of note is that I am now an FCC General Class Amateur Radio License holder. No big deal there, I passed the test last April and new FCC rules eliminating the code made learning it unnecessary. So I just had to turn in the CSCE. In the next couple of weeks I will be taking the Extra Class test.

I am working over my travel plans for the summer and trying to squeeze the budget a little more but not having much success. I am afraid of what fuel prices will do this summer. $3 makes it hard, $4 makes it stop. I will just have to work it out as it comes.

Glass might not work well here...first, because we usually get some
wicked hail damage every year, and second, it would allow too much light

using old patio sliding glass doors (tempered for safety). I used them
for the walls, so why not the roof?

Patio door glass is excellent. It has been used extensively for cold frames, flat or slightly sloping to the source of hail, successfully.

Be careful when installing tempered glass. I once turned in a screw and watched in horror as the entire pane fell into a pile of blunt shards in front of me. It absolutely will not tolerate being cut in the least.

The stuff I got for ten dollars a sheet has cloudy marks from where the seals failed. I double-sheeted it on the south wall of the East Wing but will one day--Hah!--replace it with new panels.
