As I mentioned the OFs are saying it is no longer a "real" license without the code. Others are saying the bands will be overrun by foul mouthed CBers. They are also saying similar things about such things as Echolink not being real radio because it does not use RF.

And this is not real computer use because I don't know how to program. Sure is fun, though.

That is the level of most of the arguments but mostly it is an argument against change. There are people who make their own gear, QRP units that need code to take advantage of every one of those 5 Watts.

Ham radio is losing numbers, not because of the changes but like so many other hobbies kids are more interested in other things. One of my favorite model railroad stores here has closed as have so many others. Computer games are what interest kids now.

Ham radio is losing numbers, not because of the changes but like so many
other hobbies kids are more interested in other things. One of my favorite
model railroad stores here has closed as have so many others. Computer
games are what interest kids now.

Our grandsons spend substantial time playing computer games. The twelve-year-old was telling me about this virtual world in which he is working. It seems surreal to know that I entertained myself with nothing but a (heavy metal) toy truck and a pile of dirt.

I do expect that their young brains will be--likely already are-- quicker, able to stretch farther faster.
