Hi Bev n' Listmates,
Well - now after all this talk, i am thinking this might be the
spring for another try at strawberries for us - your fault- this one!!I
set out about 100 plants our first year here. They thrived, began
putting out the first berries. In two nights time, the whole patch had
been eaten to nubs or less. Now, it is time that WE get fruits :)
Perhaps i can alot a good portion of the new high tunnel to them? Does
anyone here grow them in a hoop house? At least the outdoor critters
wouldn't break my heart by taking them so fast! I plan a couple small
( moveable to me alone) chicken tractors to use in there, and oh how
those darlings would love my strawberries! It may be cruel to have
them in close proximity - but they would get alot of great munchies in
there.
Hmm - we also have a spot that calls for cranberries, Bev, is there
any particular reason why you would get the groundcover ones vs. the
bushes?
I would love to learn that - and hope that some kind family member
thinks i need a nursery gift certificate for a few of them. Has anyone
here ever propagated them from cuttings? Usuually i can get a couple
plants and hope to multiply our own!
Good growing in 2007,
Toni
