in a washtub -- a tin tub with water hauled in and water hauled out
and everybody washed in the same water with boiling water added from
time to time to keep it usable. In fact, 14 percent seems high if you
look at what was available. When my grandmother had a house built
about that time, the bath tub she had installed (which my parents
moved into their new house) was a grand luxury.
