It's been raining all day and the creek is finally running! It's the
first time in two long years that we've gotten enough rain for the creek
to run. Oldtimers in the valley say that it once ran all the time, 100
years or so ago, and then it ran most of the time up until the late
1960's. Since then, the creek has been sporadic, more dry than wet.
When we first moved here 8 years ago, it ran 5 or 6 times a year,
whenever we would get about 3 inches of rain, but for the past 2 years,
it hasn't been wet at all, even with 6 inches of rain in a 24 hour
period, until today. I was so excited to see the creek and I actually
wet out there like a true redneck and got my feet wet, standing in the
creek in the rain. It was a great feeling! My raingauge is at 4 inches
and there is still more rain coming.
I didn't get much done today-Kate came over and spent the day here. It
was supposed to have been housecleaning day. She watched TV all day,
which was a bit unsettling as I am now used to the quiet during the day.
One interesting thing we saw on TV, on Animal Planet, was a program
about slimy critters..I have to tell you guys...humans were listed in
the countdown of slime and I'd like to pass on some factoids and ideas
expressed in the show.<g> The first little factoid is that humans
produce an average of one quart of nasal mucous, aka snot, a day, most
of which is swallowed. According to some Aussie researchers, this helps
our immune system as the mucous that dries in the nose as boogers
collects bacteria and various micro-organisms, etc. As it turns out,
people who eat their boogers are actually self vaccinating... lol...they
are giving themselves little homeopathic remedies everyday and building
their immune system...LOL...
Anyway, I thought you guys might appreciate knowing that!
