In trying to find the book I found what appeared to be a pretty solid site on how the real reason for the Iraq invasion was because
Sadaam Hussein was selling oil for Euros and that threatened the Feds' game.

And Iran is talking of doing the same.

It's more than talk...they are simply behind schedule on implementation,
due to arguments over political appointments to the Oil Ministry and
other problems. It was supposed to happen last March, and if you recall,
there was a lot of talk about attacking Iran at that time. Last I heard
the Bourse was supposed to open 2 months ago, but it has yet to happen.
Here's some links:

I tried to find some more recent info and links on the status of the
opening of the exchange, but came up empty other than this:

I personally think it is gearing up again....we are about to perform
"Naval exercises" off Iran to try to intimidate them, and Iran installed
missiles around Kish a few months ago(where the Bourse will be located)
to protect it from airstrikes. The fact that we are hearing more about
Iran again also leads me to believe it is close to opening.

Gene, was it William Clark pr James H. Kunstler?

A friend loaned the Long Emergency book to me and I had to give it back
before I finished reading it, but it was a good read while I had it and
I would love to finish the book. That was about a year ago, and I had
totally forgotten the guy's name until I saw it on Clark's page on Amazon.
