Well, you got me to thinking and I pulled out the stuff I have on my old Packard-Bell. Sure enough, they were originally in the radio business, were bought up by Teledyne and then by NEC. They are still sold in Europe but not here anymore, although they used to have some deal going with Earthlink. And, if memory serves me, it was some guy from Bendix that went over to Packard-Bell and got them into the whole computer thing.

Don, these guys were down in your neck of the woods. Do you remember who was who down there?

HP was up at my end of the state and was the brainchild of two guys in Palo Alto, Hewlett and Dave Packard. He of Asst. Secretary of Defence fame or enfamcy <g> They opened one of their printer plants in Santa Rosa (I think they closed that plant).

No relation between Dave Packard and Packard-Bell.

I don't believe Hewlett-Packard ever owned any part of Packard-Bell. The
latter was started in the 30's as a radio manufacturer, and later became a
electronics brand name for Teledyne. In 1986, the name was bought and
applied to cheap computers sold in retail electronics stores like Sears.
