It ruins your story but should be of some comfort- you likely couldnt
have punctured the tank with your pistol. I've unloaded a .45 ACP on an
empty (and uncapped) propane tank before to no effect. This was at a
range of 15yds or so. Barely even dented the tank. I think exploding
tanks are a Hollywood device.
Good story, though.
