In the summer I keep the fan on my furnace running all the time to keep the
air circulating constantly. Keeps the basement from getting dank and brings
some cooler air upstairs. As well I open a the doors early in the morning
and get a big fan to bring in the cooler air from outide (while expelling
the hot inside air ). Does a great job!!

I left three openings in our floors above the basement. We often use
fans to bring the basement air up into the house forcefully. Have
never worried about molds in this leaky old house. An exotic design
using stones as a heat sink would take up a lot of room and cost for
equipment.

If you do decide to have air flow upwards make sure there is a vent
bringing in fresh air to the basement from the outside. If you have a
gas-fired water heater down there there should already be a vent.
Make sure the size is appropriate for both the heater and the
ventilation upwards.

The World is on Fire, I think. It's hot everywhere, in more ways than
just the weather. At least I'm safe at home(for now) and not overseas.
It's 106 degrees here at EarthNSky, but thankfully, the humidity is only
38% today. There is no wind, and everything is roasting in the heat.
Listening to music this afternoon, some lyrics just jumped right out at
me...

Oh Superman where are you now
Everything's gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, men of power
Are losing control by the hour

This is the time
This is the place
So we look for the future
But there's not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in ....

From Land of Confusion, Genesis
