That all sounds great, Gene. The 0.02 micron filter will remove all
oocysts and you won't have to worry at all about parasites like giardia
and crypto, and it will almost certainly take care of the coliform
bacteria unless the bacteria has colonized in the plumbing or filter
itself, which is unlikely in this case.
The filter system is just under the sink with a dedicated faucet. It is new, came with the filter system. Hadn't thought about colonized bacteria. I suppose I could treat the whole plumbing system by dumping chlorine in at the pickup point down at the stream, letting it sit for some hours and then running lots of water to flush it out.
I empathize with all your concerns and testings. And yes on the hard water. Can't keep the chrome faucets looking nice without constant scouring. For coffee we use distilled water. Coffee maker lasts a long time. When we were using the distiller I had to soak the inside with vinegar about once a month.
It is very helpful to drain water heaters once a year or so or even more often to flush out sediment and some of the minerals before they become solidified in the bottom of the tank.
