Yeah know, I do a lot of probono work with the elderly, help them fill out Social Security applications, MediCal (Medicaid in California) application, etc. Guess what! There is something they failed to mention within this great a glorious "compationate" new Medicare drug plan. All the low income folks who have the Part A and Part B Medicare will no longer have Medicaid. They will now have Medicare. No choice, the feds have canceled Medicaid. O.K., so what's the big deal you say. Could be the monthly fee that has to be paid. Or the share of cost. Or the 25% co-pay. Or the $2000 cap. When you consider that some of these folks only have $500 to $700 a month coming in, well, they don't have $36 a month to spend buying into the Medicare drug plan. Nor do they have funds to meet the share of cost or the 25% co-pay or the 100% after they reach the $2000 cap.

AND, they want to cut Medicare and Medicaid some more. Pray tell where?

As my nanny, who was from Georgia, would have said have said to them with a meaningful look in her eyes, Why bless your little hearts! Y'all from the south know precisely what she meant!

First, I read this at:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/30/politics/30health.html

WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 - Congressional committees have proposed substantial
cutbacks in Medicaid and Medicare, the nation's largest health insurance
programs, which together cover more than one-fourth of all Americans.
