When reminded of mistakes she'd made in her life, positions she'd taken that
over her life proved not to be supportable, the poet Maya Angilou summed up
her handling of it as "When you knew better, you did better."

The one commodity that wastes life is a lack of the composed logic that gives
one the fortitude to grasp the nettle, as it were, to actually look at the
numbers and deal with them no matter how unpleasant they might be. The
alternative which, alas, so many adopt is a fear based indulgence in
illusions which
are given a spin to pass as something smacking of a bit more nobility ... and
called opitmism.

Thus predisposed, a person tends to saw off the board three times and lament
that it is still too short. Everything is done twice, or three times in
their
lives when once would have done nicely had they only seen the folly of doing
the same thing repeatedly and hoping each time for a different result.

It's a great help to find that bit of flint from time to time that enhances
and corrects what logic has built. Alas, once must often mine in the slag of
ideas generated by those who buffet about in a fear-and-blame tizzy.

Ah, well, the pan comes up empty this time. Better mining in the future.
