Lots of black walnut here. Here's something I just made in my shop from
black walnut:

If you plant black walnut in open ground, it will branch not very far from
the ground making it less than perfect furniture or veneer wood. If you
interplant one for one with ash trees, it forces the walnut to grow a long straight
trunk before branching and gives a much more valuable log ...... in fifty to
seventy years.

I'll check that out next dial in. I was thinking to start some seeds out in an open spot in the woods on my place. I might get some nuts and the next generation would have some nice wood.
