Perhaps that's why you misunderstand. Everyone who has income over and above
deductions and adjustments and whatever else that stuff is called, pays some.
But stay under that rather generous amount, and no INCOME tax is owed.

FICA (geezer tax) gets ya though. That one's 15%. All income after
expenses. No deductions. Offset for most low income folks by the income
redistribution scheme of EIC however.

We need to go with the FairTax. See www.fairtax.org With that, every family
(EVERY family, regardless of income) gets a check for poverty level tax
expenditures for that month at the beginning of the month. Used items are
not
taxed. Hidden taxes are eliminated. IRS, eliminated. What's not to love.
