tvoivozhd---I think a friend of mine originated and patented making of ethanol from wood waste in the U.S. He came out of the papermill business. Because of cheap oil competition, he found it more profitable to stop the process at conversion of wood waste to quite sweet cattle feed from cellulose and hemicellulose, had a large number of licensees in Africa. Think I still have his patents out in my West Barn, maybe pictures of his research operation in Oklahoma. His was a batch process using big spherical cookers.

tvoivozhd---you must have done something terrible to get thrown off the
longboat in BC. Where in BC?, used to get up to Nanaimo a lot.
Fred Enga: - I keep following the general discussions of Leif Ericson and his
dad Eric the Red. From Norway to England, many years there, to then live in
various parts of Europe, then the long pull at the oars to Philadelphia for
6 years. Then drawn to the snow and spent six years in North Ontario in
Canada, and now 7 years in Mission BC. As a specialist in the industrial
production of fuel ethanol from wood waste, I am now in wood waste heaven
(and it's a really great place to live). Like all Nogs, when we find a
place like Norway we are happy and settle down, forgetting completely the
reasons we left Norway are because it looks like Norway. We are experts at
farming both sides of the acre and rock picking.

My Uuf da ancestors first went to Normandy, thence to Scotland and Ireland, better known as Scots Irish in the United States
when they arrived here---my paternal grandfather went to Wisconsin from Philadelphia, but maintained a residence there, and in Atlantic City while he operated his mini-empire of cheese factories.in Wisconsin. Maternal great grandfather also went through Pennsylvania, became Amish and headed for Mid-Wisconsin hill country where his grandson and grandson's mother with axe and two-man crosscut saw(one middle-aged woman) hewed a log cabin, log dairy barn, log tobacco barn out of the wilderness. Nice place, good brook-trout fishing, my mother sent me there in summers when my oldest uncle was making the conversion from oxen to horses.
Speaking of oxen, I have a friend somewhere on the eastern BC shore who raises Devon cattle for beef, they were also used as a hardy, efficient, eat-anything dairy breed, extremely popular with bulls converted to organic four-footed tractors.
Always had a soft place in my heart for fjords and one-man longboats---mine was a hermaphrodite-rigged 56-foot two-mast schooner, square sail on forward mast. Had to avoid bad weather because of difficulty of one-man operation---should have converted it to Chinese battened lug-sails which can be easily and safely operated by 100 lb. Mama San in a blinding storm.
No fjords on Abaco Island in Bahamas, and none where I now live near Roanoke, Virginia having emigrated from Toxic-Sauna-Bath Houston in 1988. Some compensation in some huge springs, four creeks and our private lake forty feet above the valley floor---don't know any Uuf da that can stand water-free hot deserts.
