1. Do you garden organically (naturally if you want)?
Yes, I talk to folks about it all day, so I like to get direct experiences with the products that I sell and recommend. With a background in chemistry and biology, I want to minimize the toxins in my environment. I know the darkside of the use of synthetic pesticides and dont want to contribute to that world.
2. Is there a growing trend towards organics and away from chemicals amongst your audience, vica versa or status quo?
Our main target market is small to mid sized farms, and we are seeing many of them as well as large farming operations (thousands of acres) rapidly transitioning at least a good percentage of their acreage to organic. We work with the central coast vineyard team www.vineyardteam.org that is working with vineyards to reduce pesticide use through IPM approaces. This last year they have been holding workshops on moving to organic certification. It seems that we have gone through a phase transition where organic is rapidly becoming the major paradigm.
3. Do you see a divide between "Older gardeners" (40 plus) who are chemical users and Younger Gardeners (Below 40) who are organic?
No. I interact with aging hippies that are glad that corporate pressure is not pushing them to use toxic pesticides any more and twenty somethings that are bright with the adventure of putting together an all organic farm after studying how to use pesticides in ag school. I see more of a dicotomy between those who are awake and those who are asleep - ingesting mass market media from the TV, without critical thot.
