Title: Re: [gwl-g] shredded newspaper
12 years ago when I wrote my first column on composting I called the folks at Flint Ink who supply both The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press with ink. I believe they are one of the largest if not the largest suppliers newsprint ink in the world. They assured me both their black  and colored news print inks are non toxic soy based formulas.  Hallmark – the card people,  also purchase soy based  ink from Flint Ink.

I can't swear to this but years ago newspaper in compost or as mulch was a no no becsuse the inks were chemical and pertoleum based.  I think that these days at least the black inks are soy based but it would be good to hear from someone who knows for sure.
