When were they trained?
Are they sticking with what they learned that put them into the positions of respect they now hold?
What was their purpose for writing the book? Educate or publish?

However, this brings up another question. Timber Press is a publisher with the bottom line of profits. Should they be held accountable to the content of a book? Shouldn't they be asking, "How many of these books can we sell?" and let the public determine its merits?

I would agree with Jeff that this type of outdated and flat out wrong information is shameful. So let us garden writers pan the book, not encourage sales, and hopefully, this kind of stuff will fade away into the past.

Timber Press will then say, "Hmm, sales of this book by these people weren't all that good. Maybe we should look for something more appropriate to the science and technology of today?"
