Hi Margaret,
Yep, that's what I meant.
I, too, have been ( well had) been growing such produce for a similar period
of time.
It's been my experience that any commercial crop, including organically
managed, will attract insect pests.
At what populations they cross the threshold from acceptable to significant
is probably a moot, but heated, point.

I don't think insects will invade peppers, even in extended time.

BTW, maybe you've run across this problem. Do you know of any critter that
will pop into a pepper patch and eat them all? This summer I lost about 3
dozen plants worth of peppers- from sweet to hot. I walked out one morning
and there they were- gone. I would have thought someone had picked them. I
use straw as a mulch so footprints weren't available. And I did query those
in our family who are not overly fond of them. dc

Were the plants nibbled on too? Deer will eat them (and later regret it, as any mammal will). Do you have groundhogs? I don't know where you are geographically. Some dogs love sweet peppers, will eat hot peppers and later regret it. Barking while defecating is a good clue.
