I agree with that one! One caution though - sand boxes attract cats as well as kids and so need to be covered.  Make them in a pit with a gradient so that trucks can be filled and dumped onto a sand free surface for building or whatever.  Mine also like sprinklers to run under (particularly if they spray in an unexpected way/pattern).  Things to climb on/over - a series of tree stumps at different heights to walk up an/or trees that have branches low enough to climb into.
 
One big problem though - doing this for your own kids in your own garden is one thing, putting them into public gardens bring liability problems.  Kids falling out of trees for instance and breaking an arm is inconvenient for a parent but expensive for a public garden if they are sued.
