Other than getting a small backhoe, are there any techniques or tips someone can offer on how to get this monster out?
Have you tried a pick axe?? It was somewhat successful when I moved a giant grass of some sort which we heeled into a temporary place one fall and then 3yrs later decided to move.

For my arborvitea that refused to move, albeit half dead, I appreciate all the input you guys gave. I ended up buying a small chain saw - the packet forget to mention 'some assembly required".  It did get the things out of the ground and into the compost, and as it had become a battle royal between us, the sense of achievement was great!

Good luck
Katy
