Peter,
concerning the language of Mark's Gospel I would recommend a German
book by Marius Reiser:
Reiser, Marius: Syntax und Stil des Markusevangeliums im Licht der
hellenischen Volksliteratur (WUNT II/11), Tübingen: Mohr, 1984.
ISBN 3-16-144765-4
It's an excellent comparison of Mark's language and popular
literature containing a detailled analysis of Mark's style with
many references to classic and hellenistic Greek literature.
Sincerely,
Stefan
