Title: The Mt of Olives
I would have thought Mark implicityl ties Jesus and the temple
together at a number of points (inlcuding Mk 13, which has been discussed
enough!).
I think the Zechariah ideas of the Mount of Olives being
picked up and flung away leaving Jerusalem elevated above all else is under
reference when Jesus tells the disciples to continue to trust him and they will
see "this mountain (Mt of Olives) flung into the sea. The apocalyptic imagery
of Zechariah (I think) is then applied by Jesus? and Mark? to the events of the
cross and resurrection... where Israel-in-Christ undergoes the "day of the Lord"
then emerges victorious. The apocalyptic battle imagery is certainly applied to
the cross events quite freely by Paul in his "victory procession"
references.
But I don't expect any of this to be agreed with.
