to say baldly that Mark rewrote Jesus to resemble Odysseus?

I believe MacDonald's general thesis is correct: that Mark is indebted to
Homer. As for Mark rewriting Jesus: that's an overstatement. I think the
evidence shows that Mark certainly meant for his readers to see some Odysseus
in Jesus.
