Actually isql is my target env ;-) . I'm not using php . Here's what
I'm trying to do:

1) Mimic mysqldump behavior, among others, that generate INSERT
statements from a live db that can be restored - via mssql . I found a
third party stored procedure that can do that.
2) I'm using an ORM tool - java / hibernate but not important here -
that creates a ddl that will drop all tables and fk's, and then create
tables and fk's . At a higher level I use jdbc and the mssql classes
to connect the running program, not freetds.
3) Create the INSERT statements as seen and dump to file, run the ddl,
restore the INSERTs - all via freetds and isql.

So for me, isql / freetds is my batch tool to do mssql admin, without
windows or its tools. I'm not a windows user, my development is
remote, and to access windows tools I'd have to use rdp. Even with the
windows tools I'd still have to bring the file to a shell to
manipulate it a bit. I've already done a lot of mssql admin via isql -
the only problem so far is the truncation issue.

Or you can enable odbc trace.

I know C a bit if that is what is needed.

Thanks!
