Maybe TDSDUMPCONFIG isn't telling you anything because odbc.ini doesn't
indicate a Servername entry. Servername refers to the freetds.conf
dataserver name; if you use "Server" instead, you're talking about the
DNS name, and the ODBC driver doesn't consult freetds.conf.

If you run "tsql -S servername" with TDSDUMPCONFIG, you'll see the
search path.

You're using a very old version. You'll find hundreds of fixes and many
added features since then in ChangeLog. If you have a problem with it,
the first thing we'll suggest is to upgrade.

What means "correct", Andrew? Your first message indicated you have a
file /etc/freetds/freetds.conf. That's not right unless you did
"./configure --sysconfdir=/etc". But you're using an RPM or somesuch,
so the package should tell you where freetds.conf should be located.

A quick hack:

$ strings build/src/tds/.libs/libtds.a |grep freetds.conf
%s/etc/freetds.conf
.freetds.conf
(.freetds.conf)
/usr/local/etc/freetds.conf <== your clue here
...Error getting ~/.freetds.conf. Trying %s.
