Hi Michael,
As soon as the data are picked up from the wire, UCS-2 data are converted
to the client's encoding, determined by the freetds.conf entry. For
something like ISO 8859-1, nvarchar(3500) is reported as varchar(3500);
for UTF-8, you will see varchar(14000), providing 4 bytes for every UCS-2
character.
There is no way to defeat this, and no (working) support for UCS-2
clients.
