Ah, I think I see now. I think that php's mssql module does this.
Maybe I should try and make the sybase modules follow the same convention
(I'm using the sybase_ct, so I think I would need to use cs_dt_info().

This sounds like a great idea to me. I like the idea of setting my format in
freetds.conf, instead of hacking each and every freetds-using app I want to
use. It might not be what openclient does, but I think that's okay.
