Under TDS 4.2/4.6/5.0 there are two fields in the login packet which
specify the protocol and program version numbers. I haven't seen anything
like that with 7.0. However the login ack that returns comes back with the
version set. So, the only way seems to be to look at the packet type
(first byte of the header). If it is 0x10 then its TDS 7.0, else look at
the version field.
