MS SQL 7.0 will still allow 4.2 clients to connect although some features
would be unavailable much like connecting to sybase servers with 4.2
instead of 5.0. We've had some reports of success however you'll need the
version from CVS which fixes a couple of bugs that 7.0 tickled.

There are no specs available without NDA for any TDS version that I'm
aware of. (Although Sybase is supposedly going to release them soon for
TDS 5.0). TDS 7.0 support could be added if needed. I'm guessing since
they kept the name 'TDS' this is just a few tweaks to the protocol rather
than a total restructuring, although I'm only guessing. However, since I
don't have access to either 7.0 servers or clients this is going to be
impossible for me to do.
