Volunteer Work & Learning Sessions at ICG

Ithaca Children's Garden, Rt. 89 at Cass Park, Ithaca
Drop in at the Ithaca Children's Garden for volunteer work and learning sessions on Monday evenings 5:00-7:00pm from May 16 - June 27.  Volunteers will work with the guidance of professional horticulturist Linda Yannone to get the garden in shape this season.  Come once or several times to learn gardening basics hands-on, or simply to help the Children's Garden look its best.  No gardening experience required.  All ages are welcome! Finger Lakes Cheese Trail Open House

Various locations
Visit artisanal cheese producers and sample their products on this day-long open house.  Many varieties are now being made, from cow, sheep & goat milk. Introduction to Edible & Medicinal Herbs & Spices
Monday, June 6, 6:00-8:00 pm
Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca
Learn about the growing habits and benefits of herbs and spices  culinary, medicinal, and aroma-therapeutic.  Enjoy a hands-on class with a complete sampling of herbs and plenty of time for Q&A. Class will be taught by a member of the Auraca Herbarists, the herb group associated with Cornell Plantations and the NYS Robison Herb garden.  Fee:  $5. Garden Reprise

2011 Open Days Garden Tour

Visit any or all of 3 outstanding private gardens that are open to the public for one day only. $5 per person per garden, proceeds benefit the Tompkins County Community Beautification Program and the national Garden Conservancy. Gardener's Pot Swap & Recycling Event
9:00am-6:00pm on Friday, June 24 - Monday, June 27
at Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
From Friday June 24 through Monday June 27, you can leave your plastic nursery pots, trays and cell packs in the designated area off the CCE-Tompkins main parking lot on Willow Avenue.  You may take away as many pots as you can use, too!  Plastic that is left after the weekend event will be taken to a recycler for processing. This is a FREE opportunity for gardeners to recycle their plastic plant containers instead of throwing them away. Questions? Compost with Confidence: Getting Started

at the Compost Demonstration site, Ithaca Community Gardens at the entrance to the Ithaca Farmers' Market
Master Composter volunteers will provide information and hands-on demonstrations on how to set up and manage a compost system in any setting!  This FREE 5-part series meets on the last Saturday of the month from June through October.  Each class covers composting basics and a special topic.
