Are you wondering whether it's too early now to plant your potatoes or lima beans? Or perhaps you'd like to start your home vegetable garden in July after a vacation; what can you still plant at that time to harvest before the first fall frost?
Visit the CCE-Tompkins web site for guidelines that list a variety of popular garden vegetables along with their suggested first and last planting dates (as seeds, sets, or transplants) for Tompkins County, NY. Use our charts to decide what vegetables to put in first, and also when to plant later crops that will mature to a useful size by fall.
Paste http://ccetompkins.org/planting-dates into your browser,
or visit: http://ccetompkins.org/garden/food-gardening/first-planting-dates
The site includes a printable 2-page PDF (31kb) with suggested first and last planting dates for many vegetables.
For more information, or answers to specific home gardening questions, contact the CCE-Tompkins GrowLine or Patricia Curran at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County (607) 272-2292, or email Pat at pc21 AT cornell.edu.
Be sure also to check the CALENDAR OF EVENTS at http://ccetompkins.org/calendar for details on our Annual Spring Garden & Plant Fair (5/14), upcoming home gardening workshops, and local kitchen garden tours (in late summer)!
