Rick,
For what it's worth: I take it that the 'object' is (the
knowledge of) God. The reference to PROSWPON PROS PROSWPON in v.12b implies a
vision of a person, ie., God. This is suggested further by the divine passive
(EPEGNWSQHN) in 12c. Of course, the point is to relegate Corinthian
claims to have gained full knowledge of divine mysteries. A similar relegation
is found in 2:6-16.
