I just heard from Anatoly, that Ilya has joined with Proclus to give us
technical support for developing a draft for our licensing and tagging
fund-raiser. We're looking for more volunteers, so let us know, if
you're interested.

The idea so far, seems to be moving in the direction of providing a
means for musicians and artists, those who have no to little computer
proficiency, to be able to license and tag their works for posting on
the Internet, archiving the songs, and setting the stage to develop a
comprehensive Internet marketing campaign.

As community-based recording studios begin to appear, they will need to
be able to help users in their communities to complete these initial
steps, whether for a song they recorded, or a nonprofit fund-raiser
CD/DVD, PSA, or whatever. Small businesses that use the community-based
recording studios will need the same services.

With that in mind, we are thinking we could gather the data fields that
have to be filled out, create a database to hold the information, and
then automate what parts of the system for licensing and uploading to an
archive might entail. This would then make it a one-stop service that
lets the creator do their thing, and lets the computer handle the
technical aspects.

We are not sure this idea will fly, but it seems to offer a way to
bridge the present situation that requires the musician or artist to
understand and handle both administrative and technical requirements.
Not much fun, to say the least. So, if we can make this a little easier
and much more fun, that's the goal.

If you want to get involved, and help with development, marketing,
working with musicians and artists, let me know. This could be a good
thing.
Tom
