Hey all. I just wanted to mention a couple of my recent thoughts on our logo and letterhead. First off, in light of our recent discussions about identity and possible changes to how we exist as a commission, the logo design has taken a different priority. I am guessing we are no longer looking for a logo to serve us for 5 or 10 years, since if we change the composition of who we are with the town, there's a good chance we will no longer be the "Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission".

This is neither good nor bad, it just means we have different needs for identity. Mostly, I think we need to really push our identity for who we are NOW as we look to convince others of who we want to be in the FUTURE. I think a logo is still very crucial to us as we promote who we are now, even though we're probably not looking at it for the long run of identity anymore.

I would like to ask that we make a good decision but also a quick decision on the logo, so that we can begin to use it right away and then put our focus on the other things we need to promote our identity and place ourselves in a strong position for future changes. Other things we can do after an accepted logo: get to work on creating a comprehensive and up-to-date web site, use the logo in any advertising or brochures, work on a newsletter to announce what we've been doing/are doing/and will be doing.

Also, thinking of uses for the logo, I am guessing we are going to want to do "self-printed" materials for now instead of paying printery costs and getting printery quantities for things like letterhead, business cards, and envelopes. What I mean by this is that we will probably at this point just build the letterhead into Word for printing on a regular color printer. And I'd suggest we for now just use blank business card sheets, again through a color printer, instead of a custom printed quantity of 500-1000. This does not look as good as professional letterhead and business cards, but having a logo and letterhead design incorporated will definitely still give us a nice look.

I know as a commission we have A LOT to think about recently, and a lot to work on. So hopefully we can be efficient with our decisions and work hard on our actions.

Andrew
