=95 7P Durham Youth Orchestra's Jazz Ensemble (jazz)
With members from the senior Orchestra, this unique band showcases the
talents of our young wind players performing jazz and various other
types of music. Students learn about the history of jazz, how to
improvise, and ensemble techniques in a jazz setting.
=95 8P Gilbert Neal Trio (soul/pop/acoustic)
=95 10P stephaniesid (indie/pop/rock) $5 cover
Although generally referred to as an indie-pop band, their sound is
actually far more complex and compelling than that genre label
implies. Starting off as a darkly bittersweet piano-bar duo (with
Chuck Lichtenberger playing piano and Stephanie Morgan singing), the
group has since expanded to a full band and become one of the most
interesting, experimental and creatively edgy acts in town. And
they=92ve been successful to boot, touring nationally and supporting the
local scene through efforts like the POPAsheville music festival
(formerly known as IdFest).

Friday Jan 30
=95 10P SoSeriousEntertainment (rap/r&b/hip hop) - $5 cover
So Serious Entertainment was started in early 2006 by three friends
searching for music that America would love. The company was founded
in Durham, North Carolina and currently operates So Serious Studios,
but is poising itself for a total assault on both the music industry
and the hip hop world. We have a small stable of young artists ready
to break out.

Saturday Jan 31
=95 8P Benyaro (acoustic/soul/indie)
"New York City's Benyaro play the kind of introspective, deeply
emotional acoustic music that fans of the form should swoon over. The
harmonies are crystalline, the playing flawless, and the songs tight.
In short it's an impeccable recording." - Chris La Tray - music
critic, Missoula Independent
=95 10:00P Zegg (jam/jazz/funk) - $5 cover
Zegg is made up of four musicians from Raleigh, NC. Mike Gloss plays
acoustic and electric guitar with an inventive, quirky style. Bongo
John, the percussist and drummer, plays with as much soul as metronome
precission; He and Shane Bullis, a bottomless bass player, hold down
the rhythm with their groove-in-the-pocket styles. Chris Johnsons
blistering and soulful keyboard work and great vocal abilities
perfectly round out the quartet.
=95 11:30P The Bob Funck Band (folk rock/pop)
Bob Funck's music can be described as rhythmic, acoustic rock with a
warm, melodic complexity that is both accessible and unpredictable.
His vocal melodies are colorful and adventuresome, and laden with
irresistible hooks. The songs are at once melancholy and hopeful,
weaving personal, philosophical, social, and spiritual themes into
intricate lyrical tapestries. His voice is stirring and emotive,
exuding the kind of feeling that only comes from bare sincerity. Bobs
guitar work is a dynamic, expressive blend of alternating picking and
syncopated strumming that often employs an unusual, beautiful
dissonance approach to chord selection.

Sunday Feb 1
