Are you suggesting that door people don't know how to tell time?
Seriously, though, I see ads for non-rock nightclubs that say "ladies free before midnight" or "ladies free before 10pm" or "no cover before 10pm" all the time. Surely if they can implement a system like that, so can the rockclubs.
You *would* have to characterize it as a discount, and make it less than 50%. Two bucks? Three bucks? $3 is like getting a free drink for showing up on time, which also gives you something to do while you're waiting for the band to start ;-)

This has already gotten much more serious consideration than I had anticipated. I think it would be a good idea if it weren't completely impossible to implement. ;)

Oh there's a fee. It's just collected in private.
D. Bartholomew has a point. Show your hand stamp from another show for the
advance discount! I'm buying stock in Sharpie if that ever comes to be.

Kinda like "ladies free before midnight," which I think is already in
effect at any show Hepler's involved in?

Easy solution. First band starts at posted time, period. Door pricedouble.
doubles 30 minutes after posted start time. Be there early or pay

It's pretty common in the live entertainment industry to hold the start
at aperformance 15-20 minutes. I think what matters more is that shows end
ofcertain time. At least when it comes to week/work night shows.
But also, having sorta "stage managed" a few recent shows, I think that
people love to be late, and for some reason, bands want to play in front
becausepeople. And when it comes down to it, all those people who show up late
seldom seem to mind missing parts or all of opening bands, either
soonthose bands aren't the reason they came or those bands will play again

I think that this will always be an issue.

Although we all know the answer already, which is that printed start
times should be amended to read:
"9:30, or once 50 people have come through the door, including the bass
player's girlfriend, whichever's later."

-- ch-scene: the list that mirrors alt.music.chapel-hill --Oh yeah: when they say 5:30, they mean it.Why does this continuously have to be explained when it comes to rocks
shows? Movie theatres, television stations and just about every other
business operates on specific times, why are music outlets supposedly
exempt??
