Subject: First GLAM benefit- June 18th at Jo & Joes!!!

Hi everyone!

We're writing to let you know about our upcoming GLAM benefit & YART SALE at
Jo and Joe's in downtown Durham. The YART sale is Saturday, June 18th from
12-6 with a 6 o'clock documentary showing by Jenn Ashlock about Natasha, a
local high school all-girl band that RULED the dance floor for all of 2004,
and then there will be an early evening rock show to follow with Gerty
(Shirle from last year's rock camp!) www.gerty.org<http://www.gerty.org/> and
Blackstrap www.blackstrap.org<http://www.blackstrap.org/>.

So what is GLAM?

It stands for Girls Leading in Arts & Music!

GLAM is the new nonprofit organization that Amelia, Abby and Nora (all from
last year's Rock & Roll Camp- and this year's...) are starting so we can get
tax-deductible donations of equipment, money, and supplies to keep the NC
Rock & Roll Camp for Girls going strong, and even add other workshops and
programs for girls of all ages all year long! We want to be sure that girls
all over the triangle area are able to get together and make music, art and
friends, so we're starting this nonprofit to try and facilitate more
programs, and more fun.

So back to Saturday the 18th of June:

We want as many girls, families, rockers, artists, and members of the
community to come and check out artwork by local artists that will be sold at
yard sale prices. Every artist has committed to donating a portion of their
profits to GLAM, so we can start to put together more events and workshops
for girls in Music and Art. The YART sale will be out on the lawn beside Jo
and Joe's in downtown Durham, and we'll have plenty of information about GLAM
there. We hope that this will be an opportunity for us to share our vision
of GLAM, as well as take in any other ideas you may have (anyone!) so we can
make this a truly community-based project that grows and develops based on
what the girls of North Carolina want! So far, we do know they want to rock!

So far we know we have Photos, Custom/vintage style hot-pan holders and
skirts, Custom vintage style aprons, screen-printed shirts and cards, "Rinski
Designs" Funky, stylish jewelry, Handmade bags, Ms. Films stuff, Collage,
multimedia, Paintings, drawings, sketches, and jams, etc. to sell. So much
cool stuff!

Please help us to start getting the word out! If you would like to bring
some artwork, food, or whatever you can make to sell, we'll welcome you with
open arms. We just ask that you contribute a portion of your profits (no
matter what percent you can afford) to GLAM. It will be a fun day to hang
out and share creative space with each other, check out local art, films, and
music. Jo & Joe's also has the best burger in in the Triangle (it's a double
decker), as well as yummy vegetarian options to boot!!

You or any other potential participants can email
ncgirlslead AT yahoo.com<http://us.f317.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=ncgirlslead AT yahoo.com&YY=79925&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&view=a&head=b>,
or to call Abby at 919-451-4805. If you have general questions about GLAM
or Rock Camp, call Amelia at 919-618-4846.

Thanks, everyone. We're really excited about this event. And thanks for
spreading the word about Rock Camp. Both weeks are full! We'll be in touch
with specific camp needs for campers in the next few weeks. We've got some
pretty cool volunteer positions that need
filling, too, so let us know if you'd like to contribute time this summer
between the last week of July through the second week of August. With help
from GLAM, there will be more fun all year for girls (and women!) of all
ages. And you don't have to be a female to volunteer your time, either. We
love help from all creative people!

Hope to see you on the 18th!

Love from GLAM,

Amelia, Abby, & Nora
