Thanks for that NY Post story, greco_kraut. The Denver Post adds a few
details as well:
http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E53%257E2725327,00.html

===
Tobia [Thompson's lawyer of 15 years] said his client and friend didn't leave
a suicide note, only obscure directions he had issued to friends and family
in recent days. "This was definitely not spur of the moment," said Tobia, who
plans to fly to Colorado today. "He arranged to have things dealt with, and
he wanted his family close by, but he didn't want anyone to know - he didn't
want anyone to try to stop him."

Tobia said he didn't know of anything specific that led to Thompson's suicide
but noted the two had discussed it in the past.

He did say that the decision had nothing to do with the re- election of
George W. Bush or the current trend in national politics, which provided a
certain grist for Thompson's mill. Nor did the writer have any significant
financial problems. With his land, archives, royalties and other valuable,
Tobia said, Thompson's estate is worth millions of dollars. The best
explanation, perhaps, is that in recent months Thompson had chronic pain from
back surgery and an artificial hip.

MASALA BEAT CLUB - OXFAM RELIEF BENEFIT
Saturday, February 26 - 10pm-2am and beyond...
at Ringside - Durham NC
w/ DJ Marco + DJ Mogambo
+ Project Mastana
+ The Natch Girls dancers
ADMISSION: $8 members, $10 nonmembers

Masala Beat Club DJs Marco & Mogambo team up once again with local favorites
Project Mastana and the Natch Girls dancers for four floors of heavyhitting
bhangra beats, bollywood classics & remixes, and more desi jams! Plus we'll
have bollywood videos running on all screens in the club for the real garam
masala experience!

And it's for a good cause, too - both DJs and band will be donating 100% of
their proceeds to the Oxfam America Global Emergencies Fund (which replaced
their Tsunami Response Fund as of Feb. 1). NOTE: In keeping with the nature
of the night, there will be NO GUEST LIST so as to make sure we raise the
most money possible for this important cause.

As usual, feel free to email your requests to djmarco AT solidsoundsystem.com
by this Friday. Also you may download a PDF copy of the flyer at
http://www.solidsoundsystem.com/music.html

And make sure to check this Thursday's copy of THE NEWS AND OBSERVER or go
to http://www.newsobserver.com/ for an article on the local bhangra scene
including coverage of Masala Beat Club!
