Everyone is invited to a touring program that ScreenArts is hosting
over at UNC. The Cocoon Zine, Video, and Book Tour is bringing zine
artists and their new documentary all about zines around the country
and will be in Chapel Hill on Wednesday! This will be a fantastic
event, so please come! Everything is free, and open to the public.
Check out the movie spotlight in this week's Independent Weekly!

If you are interested in documenting and in the possibilities of small
press and self-publishing, come check this out! I'm planning to start
some zinemaking workshops, so if that is something you'd be interested
in, please drop me a line.

Send me an e-mail to join the ScreenArts e-mail list, and if you'd
like to receive our schedule pamphlet each semester (including event
details and interviews with visiting artists) e-mail me with your name
and address. More about all of this can be found at

"$100 & A T-Shirt" by Joe Biel A full length video documentary about
zines in the Northwest US. cultural analysis of what causes zine
makers to tick; what the hell zines are, why people make zines, the
origin of zines, the resources and community available for zine
makers, and the future of zines. Interviews with about 70 zine makers,
ex-zine makers, and readers from the northwest. Featuring footage of
the Portland Zine Symposium, other zine related events, and activities
bringing zine culture to life. An original documentary with over 64
hours of footage for people with a new interest in zines as well as
pros and novices. The video sparks untapped creativity and new
interest into zine making and reading. Artwork by Cristy Road and
music by J Church and Defiance, OH!

"On Subbing: The First Four Years" by Dave Roche
Dave Roche's first book contains his tales of woe from working as a
substitute educational assistant in Portland's school system. He helps
kids who can't function in normal classrooms to focus on their work
and keeps kids from fighting while they tease him or adorably flirt
with him. A assuredly heartwarming read, this re-written "best of"
collection compiles excerpts from On Subbing zines #1-4 as well as
pieces written since then.

*We Ain't Got No Car!* *by Jack Saturn*
Jack Saturn is a sometimes jaded, wandering, cynical philosopher whose
endless pacing around Portland, Oregon, leads him to various minor
epiphanies while combing for bargain music. His most recent issue is
#7, bound in a book format. Jack's reading will include a slide show.
